Be the Bird.
As with books, we can travel great distances and discover new possibilities by the simple act of popping a few corks. Add a few friends to the mix and the unknown becomes reality.
Pam and Tom Northcutt are our long-time clients and friends. They are staunch supporters of the San Diego restaurant and wine scene, photographed all over the county enjoying a glass here, a plate there. We were lucky to dine and drink with them recently and through the haze of good food and better wine, Tom mentioned quite offhandedly that he enjoys wine from the Rhône Valley, France. Somehow through the wine glow I managed to file this little tidbit away…
When it came time to choose the artwork for September with our artist Reba McConnell, one particular piece snapped right into place: the herd. A patchwork of muted colour illuminates a majestic elephant with one lone bird along for the ride.
Elephants are built for traveling great distances, foraging, thinking, learning and ever socializing within their groups. Of course that social nature always reminds me of wine.
The wine region known as the Rhône is a huge area traversing a North – South direction along the Rhône River. It’s basically divided into two sub-regions with quite distinct viticultural traditions. In keeping with my theme of traveling and exploring I ended up tasting more wines just outside the Rhône Valley and fell in love!
And that’s how a collection comes together: people, wine, art: discoveries. Both GUY and I know that without the Northcutts’ support and folks like them, we cease to exist. A business can never truly stand alone; It thrives on the acceptance of others, learning, growing. It’s that collective mentality striving toward a common goal of good wine. So be the bird, and join us for the ride!
