There were so many forces that collided with this collection that I had a difficult time deciding on how it should go. Then Cathy Huyghe called me.
Cathy studied at La Varenne École de Cuisine in Burgundy, she holds master’s degrees from the Graduate School of Design and Journalism from Harvard. She was founder of 365 Days of Wine blog and Red White Boston, a digital media company for the wine industry. She even produced a location-based iPhone app of video wine recommendations around Boston, plus her numerous non-profit involvements. Currently Cathy writes for Forbes about the business and politics of the wine industry.
Cathy is a wine journalist. Her most recent accomplishment is her new book, entitled Hungry for Wine – Seeing the World through the Lens of a Wine Glass. After I hung up the phone I think my first word was “damn.”
So you get it, she is ridiculously intelligent, generous, entrepreneurial; she is also incredibly likable – people naturally gravitate towards Cathy. She says about wine, “Wine opened the door to all of these places, and it opened the path to getting to know people better.”
Below is an excerpt from Cathy’s book Hungry for Wine. I wanted to choose a part that I knew, and of course Chapter 12 seemed the most fitting since I know Hardy Wallace and one of his Dirty and Rowdy Family Winery wines is included in this collection.
This is the perfect opportunity to introduce you to our new artist, Janine Donston, a San Diego photographer. Janine’s photographs are magical and thought-provoking, much like the way Cathy’s writing makes you want to pop a bottle and dive in!
